EV CHARGING GRANT INFORMATION AND ELIGIBILITY.
OFFERING YOU THE BEST ENERGY EFFICIENT SOLUTION FOR YOU CAR.
WELCOME TO THE FUTURE OF THE MOTOR INDUSTRY.
If you currently own or are thinking about purchasing an Electric Vehicle and are wondering how you are going to charge it from home, look no further.
R.A.B Electrics can provide an efficient service from start to finish. Below is some information about the OLEV Grant.
WHAT IS THE OLEV GRANT?
This is a government grant for electric cars provided by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).
The OLEV Grant also known as Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) provides up to £350 off the cost of purchasing & installing a home charging point.
Available for most electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars.
You can claim one charging per eligible vehicle and up to two charging points per household.
HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR THE OLEV GRANT?
To qualify for the OLEV Grant, you need to have purchased an eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle from 1st October 2016 onwards.
You must have off-street parking.
You must use an OLEV-approved home charging point installer.
Below is an example of the type of wall charging pod you could have installed.
Rolec have developed a range of EV charging points ideal for any industry or home, which can be easily installed and maintained.
Their range of charging stations are available in a variety of formats and, as a company offering Europe’s largest range of EV charging points, they are confident we have a charging point to suit every budget and application.

**Please note these prices are subject to change due to an update in the Grant**
Can someone steal my electricity from a charging point?
All EV Charging points under the EVHS must now have a "Smart" capability. This means that they have their own GPRS signal and connect via an app to your phone. You will physically have to accept the charge on your phone before any electricity is allowed to pass to the car, meaning no one can just turn up and plug in!
Tethered or untethered?
Tethered is great if you have some surrounding room, due to the fact you will need to wrap the cable around the unit. This also mean you have to carry around the charging lead in your vehicle, or store it in a safe space.
Untethered is more mobile, with the ability to remove the lead from the unit and transport it around with you, for on the go charging. They are also beneficial when fitting the unit into a small space with not much surrounding room.
What EV charging product do I choose?
As an installer, I like to use the Rolec Home smart charger. This is because everything inside the charger is replacable, from the contactors to the incoming terminals, if there is a fault later down the line, you won't need to replace the whole unit.
How long does the whole OLEV Grant process take, and what is involved?
There are a few steps involved in the Grant process and most of it will happen behind the scenes.
It generally takes between 3-4 weeks from the time you make initial contact with us, to the installation date. The grant is then submitted at the end of the installation month.
After that it can be up to 3 months to hear back, and upon acceptance, up to 3 months for the funds to be repaid.
